MoneyGram partners with Rain to launch stablecoin-backed card in Colombia
MoneyGram announced on September 10 that it will work with stablecoin payments firm Signify Holdings, doing business as Rain, to create a digital payments card that lets users hold stablecoins, access cash and pay via Visa’s network. The company plans to issue a physical card option before the end of the year and will first roll out the card in Colombia.
Customers will be able to add the card to Apple or Google wallets for digital use. The physical card will allow ATM cash withdrawals and in‑person purchases where digital cards are less accepted. MoneyGram says its services reach 200 countries and territories worldwide. The new card is stablecoin‑backed and is not tied to a traditional bank account or fiat currency balance.
“The new card takes a “fundamentally different approach that combines the benefits of stablecoins with a seamless customer experience for everyday utility” and is “built directly into the MoneyGram app,” a spokesperson for the company said by email said.
“The card is stablecoin-backed and is not a traditional bank account or fiat-currency balance,” a spokesperson for the company said said.
MoneyGram had previously offered a physical fiat‑based debit card that was discontinued in December 2025. Signify Holdings also provides a similar stablecoin‑backed card to Western Union, which launched its version in August. The move follows the passage of the Genius Act last year, which created a regulatory framework for stablecoin use in the United States.
