Amazon and Flipkart review security cam listings after finding unapproved units
Amazon and Flipkart have begun reviewing security camera listings in India after hundreds of products without government approval were found on sale. Reuters reported that more than 700 of around 770 internet-connected camera listings on the platforms lacked Bureau of Indian Standards approval. At least 12 listings have been removed since Tuesday, 29 September 2026, including two or more Hikvision EZVIZ models.
Since April, camera makers have had to submit their hardware and software for Bureau of Indian Standards certification before selling their products in the country. The requirement reflects concern in New Delhi that sensitive camera footage could be transmitted overseas. As of 1 October, hundreds of listings remained available on Amazon and Flipkart despite the ongoing review. Reuters also identified at least eight uncertified Wi‑Fi camera models from Hikvision and Dahua on Amazon. Maizic Smarthomes had 138 Wi‑Fi camera products on Amazon that lacked BIS approval, and the company said it had disabled Wi‑Fi functionality while seeking clearance.
“the company had disabled Wi-Fi functionality that enabled live feeds while it sought approval,” Santosh Kumar Singh, co-founder of Maizic Smarthomes said.
India announced the testing requirement for security cameras in 2024, and since April manufacturers have been required to obtain BIS certification for their camera hardware and software.

US retail major Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart have begun reviewing security camera listings in India after hundreds of products without government approval were found on sale.
The news agency reported last week that more than 700 of around 770 internet-connected camera listings across Amazon and Flipkart did not appear in the bureau’s public database of approved brands or models.
At least 12 listings have been removed since Tuesday, 29 September 2026, including two or more Hikvision EZVIZ models.
However, the report said hundreds of listings remained available as of Thursday, 1 October 2026.
The Bureau of Indian Standards database did not list approvals for any of the 138 “Wi-Fi camera” products sold by Maizic Smarthomes on Amazon.
