Highway backs $100k guarantee on 82% of North American carrier capacity

Highway announced that its $100,000 performance guarantee, which has paid out once across roughly one million loads, now covers more than 82% of the approximately 175,000 carriers moving freight for brokers in North America. The guarantee stems from a fixed identity‑verification bug tied to California licensing rules, and Highway said it has flagged 150 unique fraudulent profiles in a year‑long Kentucky ID‑ring probe.

Under the guarantee, if a broker loses a load while using Highway’s vetted carrier standard, Highway reimburses the broker up to $100,000. The program applies to carriers that meet Highway’s vetting criteria, which the company says represent the majority of North American capacity. Highway continuously monitors for ownership changes, inbox compromises and cyber anomalies within the guarantee framework to prevent further payouts.

“What I would tell you is the industry keeps trying to solve for the bottom 18% of the market,” Michael Caney, Chief Commercial Officer said.

“You can’t get in the way of the way a motor carrier gets paid,” Michael Caney, Chief Commercial Officer said.

Prior to the guarantee announcement, Highway was involved in a high‑profile, roughly 24‑hour standoff with telematics provider Motive over data throttling, which was resolved the following morning after the CCO argued that carrier ELD data belongs to the motor carrier, not the provider. The CCO also noted that DAT’s default agreements prohibit customers from sharing data with other providers, a restriction he said smaller brokers typically cannot negotiate away.
