Revolut gains Central Bank approval to acquire Argentine bank
Revolut has received Central Bank of Argentina approval to acquire Banco Cetelem Argentina S.A. from BNP Paribas Personal Finance and will rename it Revolut Bank Argentina S.A.U. upon closing. The move follows Revolut’s June 2025 announcement of the acquisition and adds to its waitlist of more than 150,000 Argentine consumers.
Upon closing, Agustin Danza will be appointed CEO of Revolut Bank Argentina S.A.U., pending final approval from the Central Bank of Argentina. Revolut Bank in Mexico currently serves more than 500,000 retail customers, according to the same Thursday release. The company already holds full banking licences in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia and the European Economic Area, and is seeking licences in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Peru and South Africa. Revolut says it plans to expand its licensed banking footprint across Latin America as part of its long‑term strategy.
“This is an important milestone in our long-term commitment to Argentina,” Agustin Danza, appointed CEO of Revolut Bank Argentina S.A.U said.
In June 2025 Revolut said it would buy Banco Cetelem to offer Argentina‑specific financial products. Earlier in 2026 the firm launched a licensed bank in Mexico, calling it the first independent digital bank to win a licence via direct application.
