Sedex expands supply chain mapping to Tier 2 suppliers as only 12% have data

Sedex expanded its supply chain mapping and risk assessment tools to help businesses identify individual worksites beyond direct vendors, a move announced as only 12 percent of surveyed companies have data on most Tier 2 suppliers. The update lets suppliers label their upstream connections by tier and requires approval before those links appear to downstream customers.

Sedex already offered mapping beyond direct suppliers, but the update changes how suppliers add upstream connections by letting them label those links by tier and requiring the upstream supplier's approval before the connection becomes visible to downstream customers. Once visible, corporate teams can filter suppliers and worksites by tier in Sedex's analytics dashboards to pinpoint higher-risk locations and gaps in suppliers' efforts to address problems. The expanded risk assessment tool covers 15 topics across more than 120,000 registered worksites. Its Audit Risk component draws on patterns from over 250,000 SMETA audits of 115,000 sites in 106 countries, and wage-risk calculations now use data from over 70,000 site-level SMETA audits plus external sources.

“Leaders are being asked to make increasingly important sourcing decisions in an environment that is less predictable than ever,” Jon Hancock, CEO of Sedex said.

“The hardest part of supply chain sustainability risk management is knowing where to act first,” Duncan Ellis, chief product and technology officer at Sedex said.

Sedex previously provided supply chain mapping that extended beyond direct suppliers. The latest update modifies how suppliers add upstream connections by letting them label those links by tier and requiring the upstream supplier's approval before the link is visible to downstream customers.
