Starmoire launches wardrobe management platform with resale marketplace
Starmoire officially launches its end-to-end wardrobe management subscription service on Monday, giving members access to its resale marketplace called The Shed. As part of the launch, the company appointed television personality and stylist Stacy London as chief style strategist and investor.
The service stores members’ clothing in offsite physical locations and provides a digitized view of their full wardrobe through an online closet. Starmoire’s proprietary AI-powered tool, Valuette, estimates the resale value of items in members’ wardrobes to help them price listings. Members can easily retrieve stored items for personal use, incorporate them into outfits, and list them for sale on The Shed marketplace. The subscription newsletter, Personal Effects, launches Monday, Sept. 21, featuring an interview with Stacy London, while the service’s pilot is enrolling members in New York City with plans to expand to additional U.S. cities by year’s end.
“We did some research and found out that Americans wear around 20 percent of what they own,” Katie Palencsar and Ruth Foxe Blader, co-founders said.
The founders said they were at a conference in Chicago, about to get on stage, talking about the feeling of having full closets and nothing to wear. They noted that another nationwide survey found that one in five Americans are sitting on more than $500 in clothes they’ve never worn.
