Stripe to acquire embedded‑finance startup Parafin for $750 million
Stripe announced it will acquire embedded‑finance startup Parafin, valued at $750 million, with the deal expected to close in the coming months. The purchase will let Stripe extend Parafin’s credit offerings to the more than 18,000 platforms that already use its payments network.
Parafin has extended roughly $3 billion in credit to about 60,000 U.S. and Canadian businesses since its first cash advance in 2021. The startup reported a $100 million annual revenue run rate as of December 2024 and had raised nearly $200 million in equity financing over its six‑year history. Stripe said the acquisition will strengthen its support for ambitious platforms while bringing more credit to the small businesses that drive economic growth.
“Platforms power millions of small businesses throughout the world and are central to Stripe’s mission,” Neetika Bansal, business lead at Stripe said.
“Offers, outstanding financing, and repayment terms are unaffected, and our combined scale and commitment will allow us to test more often, learn faster, and turn what works into better options for the platforms and businesses we serve,” Sahill Poddar and Vineet Goel, co‑founders of Parafin said.
Parafin was founded in 2020 on the premise that small and midsize businesses struggle to obtain loans because banks’ underwriting processes are designed for large enterprises, not because the businesses necessarily have poor credit. Since its launch, Parafin has raised nearly $200 million in equity financing, including a $100 million round in December 2024 that valued the company at $750 million.
