Uber Freight opens Krakow hub in 2027 to expand European 4PL operations
Uber Freight said it is making a significant, multi‑year commitment to expand its European logistics business, including a new control tower and operations hub in Krakow, Poland, set to open in 2027. The company cited Europe’s road freight market, valued at roughly $520 billion with 13.3 billion tonnes of goods moved across the EU in 2025, as the opportunity driving the investment.
The Krakow hub will become Uber Freight’s second European location, joining its existing operations in the Netherlands. Uber Freight declined to disclose the amount it expects to spend on the expansion, describing it only as a significant, multi‑year commitment to grow its European business. The investment will fund dedicated product and engineering teams tasked with enhancing the transportation management system for European shippers and expanding customer‑facing operations. The expansion is partly driven by North American customers that also operate in Europe and want to consolidate transportation management with fewer logistics providers. Uber Freight noted that its European 4PL business originated from the $2.25 billion acquisition of Transplace in 2021, which is distinct from the European freight brokerage it sold in 2020.
“We’re not sharing a specific investment figure at this time, but this is a significant, multi-year commitment to growing our European business,” Uber Freight representative said.
“Logistics is global by nature, but too often it’s managed through disconnected partners and regional silos,” Rebecca Tinucci, CEO said.
Uber Freight’s European 4PL operation stems from its $2.25 billion acquisition of Transplace, which closed in 2021. This business is separate from the European freight brokerage that Uber sold in 2020, and the company already operates a 4PL presence in the Netherlands.
