Amazon to invest $3 billion in India quick commerce by 2030
Amazon will invest $3 billion to expand its India quick-commerce business by 2030, according to two sources. The investment will be split, with $1 billion earmarked by end-2027 and a further $2 billion by 2030. Amazon's quick-commerce arm already generates over $1 billion in annualised gross sales.
The company plans to grow its Amazon Now network from about 750 neighbourhood warehouses to roughly 1,300 by April 2027. Amazon holds a 6.2% share of India's quick-commerce market, while rivals Blinkit, Swiggy and Zepto together control 77% and Flipkart 11%. The broader quick-commerce sector was valued at $19 billion and is forecast to exceed $41 billion by 2030, according to Datum Intelligence. Investment will also fund upgraded inventory-management software, AI-driven demand forecasting and a broader selection of daily essentials, excluding items such as smartphones.
Walmart's Flipkart and Amazon, despite dominating India's overall e-commerce market, entered the quick-commerce space later than rivals. As the sector grew after 2022, safety concerns rose over delivery bikers speeding through neighbourhoods, prompting the Indian government in January to ban advertising of ten-minute delivery times.
