Autonomous trucks log 440,000 driverless miles on Sun Belt routes

Aurora reported that its driverless trucks had logged close to 440,000 miles by the end of June 2025. It now operates on 10 driverless routes across the Sun Belt, including a roughly 1,000‑mile Fort Worth‑to‑Phoenix lane, and expects more than 200 driverless trucks in service by year‑end.

Kodiak had 35 driverless-powered trucks running in the Permian by the end of June, with over 40,000 cumulative hours of paid driverless operations. Volvo Autonomous Solutions and Waabi began hauling freight for Warp’s LTL network on the Dallas‑Houston corridor with an observer still in the seat, and Waabi said driverless runs on Volvo’s purpose‑built truck will start next year. Waabi also said it has cut the time to open a new lane from three months to three weeks to, on at least one lane, nothing at all. All deployments remain limited to highway middle‑mile moves in good weather, leaving dock work, yard maneuvers, breakdowns and customer‑side tasks to human drivers.

Prior to June 2025, Aurora had logged more than 250,000 driverless miles by January after launching commercial operations on the Dallas‑Houston corridor in April 2025. Kodiak had already placed 20 driverless trucks in the Permian at the end of the previous year and grew that fleet to 35 by June.
