eBay UK reported a 96% year-on-year increase in searches for pre-owned golf club sets as it prepares to host eBay Live events at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week. More than two in five (42%) Gen Z adults say their interest in playing golf has risen over the past five years, while over half (55%) of aspiring golfers cite equipment costs as a barrier to taking up the sport.
Two-thirds (66%) of aspiring golfers say live shopping would help them choose golf equipment, with 36% wanting advice on beginner needs and 26% seeking product demonstrations before purchase. Separate eBay data shows a 43% year-on-year rise in searches for ‘pre-owned golf clubs’ on eBay.co.uk. At Wentworth, sellers including GolfClubs4Cash will run eBay Live sessions where shoppers can view pre‑loved gear, see demonstrations and ask experts questions in real time. The initiative follows a previous example where Tommy Fleetwood used a £90 putter bought on eBay during the 2019 European Masters.

The increase in pre‑owned golf club searches follows a 43% year‑on‑year rise in similar queries on eBay.co.uk. eBay Live is set to appear at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week.

This comes as eBay sees growing interest in pre-loved golf equipment, with searches on eBay.co.uk for “pre-owned golf clubs” also up 43% year-on-year.
