Toys R Us adds 120 stand‑alone stores for holiday season
Toys R Us announced it will open 120 new stand-alone stores across the United States this holiday season. The expansion, done with Go Retail Group, will increase the retailer’s stand‑alone footprint to 160 locations.
Selected stores will include Creator Studios for influencer and brand content, as well as candy shops and cafes. Outside stand‑alone locations, Toys R Us operates shop‑in‑shop concepts in Macy’s stores nationwide, at airports and with the Navy Exchange Service Command. The company opened a shop‑in‑shop at Orlando International Airport in August and plans a second for next summer, while FAO Schwarz launched a new Amazon storefront this week.
“This is a major moment for Toys R Us as we significantly expand our presence across the United States,” Jamie Uitdenhowen, executive vice president of Toys R Us at WHP Global said.
Last year Toys R Us opened over 30 stores, including flagships and seasonal holiday shops. The brand emerged from a 2017 Chapter 11 bankruptcy and 2018 liquidation as Tru Kids, before WHP Global acquired a controlling stake in 2021.
