FedEx launches $99 Shopify app to guarantee duty and tax totals at checkout
FedEx launched a Shopify app on Wednesday that lets merchants display a duty-and-tax guarantee at checkout for $99 a month. The app promises to cover any duty and tax shortfall if actual charges exceed the amount shown, while offering no refund if they come in lower.
Merchants install the FedEx Duty and Tax app from the Shopify App Store and pay a monthly fee of $99, which includes a service charge.;During checkout, the app shows customers the guaranteed total landed cost, including estimated duties and taxes, based on the product’s destination.;FedEx will reimburse merchants for any difference when the actual duties and taxes exceed the quoted amount, but does not refund excess if the actual charges are lower.
“Compared to competitors, FedEx Duty and Tax is,” Jason Brenner, FedEx's senior vice president of digital portfolio, in an interview with sister publication Supply Chain Dive said.

Earlier, UPS introduced a comparable service, UPS Global Checkout, that shows shoppers a guaranteed total landed cost before purchase. Zonos already offers a Duty and Tax app on Shopify that calculates duties at checkout and covers any customs billing differences.
