Denim collaborators launch Naturalls low‑carbon collection for Climate Week NYC debut
The Lycra Company, Avalo, Neela by Sapphire Fibers Ltd., and Soko have launched the Naturalls denim collection, set to debut at a dedicated event during Climate Week NYC from Sept. 20-27. The collection’s Low‑Footprint Cotton uses zero irrigation and 75 percent less fertilizer, while its spandex contains 70 percent renewable content, cutting the fiber’s carbon footprint by up to 45 percent.
Neela handled the spinning, weaving and garment‑making steps, aiming to create a bigger, smarter and more natural product with attention to aesthetics, hand feel and visual appeal. Soko applied its Hydrogel technology, which turns water into a gel to allow multiple finishing treatments in a single bath, cutting water use by up to 85 percent, energy use by up to 68 percent and processing time by up to 50 percent. The company also used its Rare mineral‑pigment system, which employs a natural binder to produce authentic, timeless shades. Labor Made Inc.’s Gordon Muir designed the workwear‑inspired line—pants, jackets, aprons and similar pieces—as a tribute to the farmers who grow the fiber.
“Every piece of clothing starts in a field, with a farmer and a plant working harder than most people realize to keep up with a changing climate. Naturalls is our way of putting that reality in front of the designers and product developers who buy and build with denim every day. We are proving that sustainability in this industry doesn’t have to be a tradeoff between innovation and impact,” Tricia Carey, Avalo’s chief commercial officer said.
The initiative shows how denim suppliers can cooperate to create plant‑based, low‑impact denim. It unites The Lycra Company, Avalo, Neela by Sapphire Fibers Ltd., and Soko, combining their respective technologies.
