Flexport launches MCP server letting AI agents book freight

On Tuesday, Flexport launched a Model Context Protocol server that lets shippers’ AI agents track, quote, and book freight on its platform. The company said more than 13,000 companies use its platform. Flexport’s own AI agents process 21 million tasks a year.

Agents can track shipments, surface exceptions or customs holds, search rates on any lane, or book outright without logging into the Flexport platform. The server also extends Flexport Atlas beyond ocean freight, adding air, rail, and barge routing and an AI‑curated disruption layer that monitors news for shipment‑affecting events. Flexport opened its first fully automated e‑commerce fulfillment center outside Chicago, where more than 350 robots bring inventory to workers and the site runs at double the efficiency of a traditional warehouse.

“The future of global logistics is autonomous: intelligent supply chains that see problems before they happen, calculate the fix, and execute it in a recurring self‑improvement loop,” Ryan Petersen, founder and CEO of Flexport said.

In February, Flexport introduced Atlas as a no‑cost map of global trade showing the ocean network. Since then, the company has opened fulfillment centers in Mississauga, Ontario, and Manchester, England, and expanded to eight new countries, bringing its total to 47 offices worldwide.
