Logistics firms agree to pay $2 million to settle hiring‑discrimination cases
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced on Monday that Birchstone Management will pay $500,000 and Mile Hi Companies $1.5 million to resolve federal hiring‑discrimination claims. Birchstone’s $500,000 settlement includes a $55,000 payment to the woman who filed the charge and a $445,000 fund for other affected applicants, while Mile Hi’s $1.5 million resolves allegations of discrimination against Black, female and Afghan job seekers.
Birchstone must revise its hiring and recruitment policies, provide training to personnel involved in hiring at several locations, audit its employment recordkeeping annually and report to the EEOC for two years.
The Birchstone settlement follows a Sept. 25 announcement that Mile Hi Companies agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle an EEOC lawsuit filed in 2024. The EEOC alleged Mile Hi denied employment opportunities to Black, female and Afghan applicants beginning in 2015.
