Target cuts prices on nearly 2,000 items for holiday season
Target has cut prices on nearly 2,000 apparel, accessory and home items as the holiday shopping season starts. The move brings Target’s total price reductions over the past year to more than 10,000. For example, women’s long‑sleeved tees now sell for $12, down from $15 earlier.
The average price of women’s shoes has fallen to $35 from $40 a year ago. About 70% of newly added items carry prices lower than those of the previous year's styles. Children’s rain and winter boots now cost about 15% less than a year ago. Bedding prices are about 15% lower on average, exemplified by Threshold queen comforters now $69 versus $89 before and Room Essentials queen comforters at $40 versus $50 previously.
“Guests are looking for great products at an incredible value, and that’s an important part of what we aim to deliver every day,” Cara Sylvester said.
Earlier in August, Target posted second‑quarter net earnings of $1.87 billion, more than doubling year‑on‑year, and raised its full‑year guidance. In March the retailer said it would invest over $2 billion in operating and capital spending to fund growth initiatives.
