Ikea adds UK, Ireland and Germany to second‑hand marketplace, total nine markets
Ikea has expanded its pre‑owned marketplace to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, bringing the total number of active markets to nine. It also plans to launch a buyback service in Portugal and Spain by the end of December.
According to the company, the marketplace has received 15 million visits and generated 95,700 listings up to 31 August 2026. It has also resulted in 25.5 percent of the marketplace users becoming new or reactivated Ikea Family members (the company’s loyalty program). Members can add items to the platform for free, while the buyback option lets customers sell directly to Ikea after receiving an offer.
“We started small, listened closely and have developed the marketplace step by step. The data tells us there is clear interest. Testing the option for customers to sell direct to IKEA on the marketplace and exploring delivery partnerships are practical next steps. Together with the launch in the UK and Ireland, these tests will help us make it simpler for the many people to buy and sell pre-owned IKEA products,” Emily Birkin, Development & Transformation Manager, Ingka Group (IKEA) said.
In 2024 Ikea piloted a second‑hand C2C marketplace in Spain and Norway. After the pilot, the platform was rolled out to Portugal, Poland, Sweden and Belgium.
