Vinnies NSW partners with eBay Live to launch real-time livestream auctions

Vinnies NSW, a 104-year-old charity, will host its first real-time livestream auction on eBay Live starting September 30. The inaugural stream will feature a signed late‑1990s Sydney Roosters jersey with opening bids of $1.

All proceeds from the auctions will fund Vinnies’ community support programs across New South Wales. The initiative follows the launch of Vinnies Finds, the charity’s dedicated e‑commerce platform, which went live in May 2023. Vinnies NSW hopes to reach a national audience by auctioning rare or specialised items that may sell poorly in physical stores. The auction will be streamed live on eBay Live’s platform, allowing viewers to bid in real time as the host presents each item. Virginia Boyd, spokesperson for Vinnies NSW, said the partnership lets the organisation engage online shoppers in real time while directing every sale to emergency housing, food assistance and community care.

“We are always looking at how we can innovate and adapt to meet our supporters where they are,” Virginia Boyd, Vinnies NSW spokesperson said.

“The incredible response to Vinnies Finds demonstrated the huge demand for curated, sustainable shopping online,” Virginia Boyd, Vinnies NSW spokesperson said.

Vinnies NSW launched its dedicated e‑commerce site, Vinnies Finds, in May 2023 as part of a broader push to modernise retail operations. Earlier, Vinnies Victoria had already introduced an e‑commerce platform to capture growing online demand. The livestream auction builds on those earlier digital initiatives.
