Walmart to open $300 million Ohio fulfillment center for oversized goods

Walmart plans to build a $300 million fulfillment center in Turtlecreek Township, Ohio, according to a Sept. 28 press release from the Regional Economic Development Initiative Cincinnati. The facility will focus on televisions, furniture and other bulky items and is expected to generate more than 300 new jobs.

The facility will be built to handle bulky, non sortable merchandise such as televisions and furniture, allowing Walmart to keep such inventory closer to Midwest customers. It will sit on nearly 100 acres acquired in Warren County and is intended to work alongside the existing fulfillment center in Monroe, Ohio, which currently employs over 200 associates. The REDI Cincinnati announcement did not specify the building’s square footage or a construction timeline. This project fits into Walmart’s broader warehouse network revisions, which earlier this year included a proposal for a fulfillment warehouse of 1.5 million square feet in New York. Walmart also said it will spend more than $330 million to automate its Opelousas, Louisiana distribution center and will close fulfillment sites in Massachusetts and Illinois.

Earlier in 2026 Walmart sought to construct a fulfillment warehouse of 1.5 million square feet in New York and pledged over $330 million to upgrade its Opelousas, Louisiana distribution center with robotics. The retailer also announced plans to shut fulfillment centers in Massachusetts and Illinois, moves that come as Amazon and Costco expand their own big and bulky delivery offerings.
