Reckitt exec says AI agents will handle weekend tasks within two years

Reckitt’s global director of data & shared services, German Faraoni Heidenreich, said AI agents could manage weekend chores such as cleaning and shopping within two years. He spoke ahead of the forthcoming CustomerX event, where he described a shift from product‑based shopping to outcome‑driven commerce. He noted that by 2030, commerce will be agentic, with humans stating the outcomes they want to reach.

Heidenreich explained that an AI agent could understand a customer’s budget, preferred brands, sustainability expectations, location and schedule to decide what is needed, where to source it and how to deliver it. The agent could assess price, availability, suitability and delivery before presenting a recommendation or completing the purchase itself. For Reckitt, the strategic question becomes how to appear relevant to an AI agent choosing between products, rather than relying on traditional retailer‑driven demand. He added that the retailer’s role blurs, as agents may select a supermarket, marketplace, delivery app or personal‑shopping service depending on context.

“The 2030 version of commerce will be agentic and it will be humans articulating outcomes that they want to reach,” German Faraoni Heidenreich, Global Director, data & shared services at Reckitt said.

Heidenreich said people used to think about going to a specific retailer to find a brand they knew, but now they think about the outcome they want, such as cleaning the house and getting the kids to football. Outcomes, not sectors, is a CustomerX view: customers do not experience life as a collection of grocery, household care, transport, entertainment and sport, but as getting the family through the weekend.
