Women athletes grow Snapchat audiences by up to 60% in Togethxr creator program

In the second year of Togethxr’s Snap the Gap cohort, women athletes such as soccer forward Michelle Alozie increased their Snapchat followers by 61% within three months. Other cohort members saw even larger jumps, with gymnast Kyrstina Johnson rising from 650 to nearly 40,000 followers and distance runner Mia Rogan climbing from 1,600 to 53,000, while all seven participants grew their audiences.

The program, run in partnership with Snapchat, provides selected athletes with production resources, mentorship and monthly progress calls to improve content quality and follower growth. Participants attend an in‑person Snap school and receive regular feedback from Togethxr’s social media team, which encourages consistent posting of both sport‑related and personal moments. Although the athletes did not share revenue figures with Digiday, Togethxr says the initiative aims to help them build identities outside their sport and attract new brand opportunities ahead of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We’ve seen firsthand that when individual athletes know how to properly present themselves, build their personal brands on social to drum up excitement for their upcoming games and their teams, that can really lead to commercial success,” Jess Dashner, director of media strategy and operations at Gupta Media said.

“It taught me to be more consistent, and post anything and everything,” Michelle Alozie, Houston Dash forward and Nigerian national soccer team player said.

Despite rising viewership and brand interest in women’s sports, individual athletes still face pay gaps and limited long‑term security, prompting many to treat content creation as a core income stream. Togethxr, a women‑led sports media and commerce company, launched Snap the Gap last year to teach athletes creator skills and help them monetize their audiences.
