Best Buy adds ChatGPT to holiday shopping ahead of 2026 season
Best Buy announced on Sept. 14 that shoppers can find gift ideas and purchase its products through ChatGPT, completing transactions inside the chat interface, ahead of the 2026 holiday season. In fiscal Q2, Best Buy’s U.S. online sales rose 5.1% to $3.0 billion, making up 33.1% of its domestic revenue.
The ChatGPT integration lets users browse gift ideas and buy Best Buy items without leaving the AI platform. Best Buy also noted it holds the No. 8 spot in the Top 1000 Database and is ranked No. 200 in Digital Commerce 360’s AI Rankings. The retailer’s U.S. marketplace, launched in August 2025, generated roughly $300 million in gross merchandise volume during Q2, with Bonfig saying the company expects marketplace GMV to reach $1.3 billion for the full fiscal year. Best Buy is also launching its online Gifting Center earlier than in previous years, featuring a tool that generates gift ideas based on recipient, interests and price range.
“to make sure we are showing up in the places where our customers look for technology and advice,” Jason Bonfig, chief customer, product and fulfillment officer and incoming CEO said.
Best Buy had already disclosed its commerce integration with OpenAI in August. Bonfig discussed the OpenAI integration during the retailer’s fiscal Q2 earnings call on Aug. 27. In August the company began rolling out Ask Blue, its conversational AI shopping and support assistant that can compare products, check fit, and direct shoppers to self‑service resources or a live specialist.
