Best Buy ranks No. 8 while launching Ask Blue AI assistant

Best Buy ranked No. 8 in the Top 1000 Database and launched its Ask Blue AI shopping assistant in August. The retailer also revealed an internal AI agent, rewritten by an employee over a weekend, that scrapes data to answer employee questions and is being repurposed for customer support.

The internal AI agent accepts text‑based queries, scrapes company data to answer employee questions such as form‑filling requests, and is being adapted to handle customer support issues. Best Buy also uses large language models to combine internal data and external signals, creating audience segments that let the retailer target lapsed shoppers at the moment demand signals appear. Ask Blue brings together product knowledge, support resources, customer reviews, availability and pricing in a conversational interface to help shoppers choose the right technology.

“I had an employee who — literally over the weekend — rewrote and created an agent for all of our employee tools,” Corie Barry, CEO, Best Buy said.

“Speaking of online experiences, I’m excited to announce the launch of Ask Blue, our new conversational AI shopping and support assistant,” Jason Bonfig, senior executive vice president, chief customer and product and fulfillment officer, Best Buy said.

Best Buy ranked No. 8 in the Top 1000 Database of North America’s largest online retailers and placed No. 200 in Digital Commerce 360’s AI Rankings. The company said it was expanding AI use across operations in 2026, with CEO Corie Barry describing AI as a growth enabler at a March conference. Jason Bonfig, senior executive vice president, is set to succeed Barry as CEO on November 1.
