Brian Monahan exits Albertsons Media Collective

Brian Monahan has left Albertsons Media Collective effective immediately, less than a year after joining the retail media unit in late July. Effective immediately, Albertsons Media Collective will now report to CMO Emily Turner, who reports to EVP and chief merchandising officer Michelle Larson.

During his tenure, Albertsons introduced a Retail Media Incrementality-Based Multi-Touch Attribution measurement tool and a scripted branded entertainment offering. The company confirmed his departure via a spokesperson and two agency executives, noting it is unclear whether his senior VP role will be filled. Albertsons did not specify why Monahan’s position is being folded, leaving the future of the retail media unit uncertain. While Albertsons’ overall financial outlook remains gloomy, its retail media business is a bright spot, with digital sales up 13% and identical sales down 0.8% in the most recent earnings.

His LinkedIn profile shows he moved to Albertsons from Dentsu, where he led retail media solutions, and previously worked at Pinterest heading its retail vertical strategy.
