FedEx and Stripe plan 2027 financing product using supply-chain data for SMBs

FedEx and Stripe announced a financing product slated for 2027 that will incorporate FedEx supply-chain intelligence—such as shipment activity, inventory movement and fulfillment performance—into Stripe Capital’s underwriting for FedEx SMB customers. PYMNTS Intelligence found that 57% of financial institutions cite inaccurate or incomplete SMB records as a key underwriting obstacle, while half of SMBs depend on day-to-day sales proceeds or cash reserves to stay operational.

The product will blend shipment volume, inventory turns and fulfillment speed with traditional credit scores and bank statements in Stripe Capital’s risk models. According to PYMNTS, digital channels accounted for 57% of SMB sales on average last year, creating a growing trail of order and stock data that lenders can now tap. Only 44% of small businesses reported having access to financing or working-capital solutions, a gap the new data‑driven approach aims to narrow.

Lenders have repeatedly warned that small‑business financial records are often inaccurate, outdated or incomplete, making underwriting risky. Supply‑chain data, which tracks orders, warehouse moves and shipments, captures physical commerce that is increasingly recorded in digital systems.
