France fines Boohoo 224,950 euros for missing eco‑impact disclosures

France’s DGCCRF fined Boohoo 224,950 euros ($260,927) for failing to disclose the environmental impact of its products. The watchdog said 1,863 Boohoo products lack geographical‑indication data for dyeing, printing and garment‑making.

It also found 773 items with over 50 % synthetic fibre that should carry a microfibre‑warning label. Boohoo has received a second DGCCRF fine within two months; the August penalty amounted to 2.3 million euros ($2.7 million) for deceptive discounts. France’s new ultra‑fast‑fashion law, effective this month, charges between 25 cents and 12 euros per item, rising to 2.20‑20 euros by 2030.

“If France insists on going its own way, China will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” Huang Ling, spokeswoman for China’s Commerce Ministry said.

France had already fined Boohoo 2.3 million euros in August for deceptive discounts, marking the watchdog’s first penalty this year. The country’s new ultra‑fast‑fashion law, which took effect this month, imposes a per‑item fee that will increase sharply by 2030.
