M&S launches first-ever Too Good to Go bag in over 350 UK stores
M&S has launched its first-ever Too Good to Go bag in over 350 UK Food stores following a trial in select locations. Shoppers can purchase the bag for £3.80 via the Too Good to Go app, receiving three to four bakery items with a minimum retail value of £10.20 – a saving of roughly 63%.
Each surprise bag contains pastries, cookies or bread baked in-store and is available for collection Monday to Saturday, one hour before the store closes. The initiative forms part of M&S’s Plan A programme, which targets a 50% reduction in food waste by 2030. M&S also noted that its partnership with Neighbourly has already redistributed 130 million meals from surplus food to charities. The Too Good to Go app alerts users when a bag is available at their chosen store, making the pickup process easier.
“Too Good To Go is a brilliant example of how we’re turning our commitment to reducing food waste into practical action,” Lucinda Langton, head of sustainability at M&S Food said.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with M&S to help make their surplus food available to even more customers across the UK and Ireland,” Chelsea Kerr, managing director at Too Good To Go UK & Ireland said.
Before this launch, M&S ran a trial of the Too Good to Go bags in a select number of UK stores to gauge customer response. The retailer’s broader Plan A strategy already includes initiatives such as repurposing surplus bread into frozen garlic bread and selling ripe bananas at a discount. Last week M&S announced that its Neighbourly partnership has donated over 130 million meals from surplus food to charities.
