Shopify adds weekly auto-sync for up to eight languages in EU stores
Shopify now provides automatic weekly translation updates for up to eight languages to merchants in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Previously, Shopify supported only two languages and required merchants to manually re‑translate content after each edit.
Merchants can enable Auto‑sync for any published language by opening Translate & Adapt, selecting the language, and toggling the Auto‑sync switch. Once enabled, Shopify scans the store each week and translates any new or updated product descriptions, collection pages, or other store content into the selected language. Translations that merchants have entered manually are protected and will never be overwritten by the automatic process. The former Auto‑translate button has been renamed ‘Translate now’ for on‑demand translations, and using either Auto‑sync or Translate now consumes one of the eight language slots available per store. You can turn Auto‑sync on or off for each language at any time, giving merchants full control over which languages receive automatic updates. Auto‑sync is disabled by default and must be activated per language via the toggle in Translate & Adapt.
Until now, editing a product description or any other store content meant going back into the app to re‑translate it yourself. As a result, translated storefronts fell behind and buyers landed on outdated content in their language. As usual, translations you wrote manually are never overwritten.
