Walmart joins OpenAI’s ChatGPT fashion push with virtual try‑on and favourites
Walmart is making its fashion range available through ChatGPT’s new Virtual Try On and Favourites features, building on its Instant Checkout partnership announced in October 2025. Shoppers can upload a selfie or screenshot to see how clothing looks on them and save items to a favourites library for later purchase.
The Virtual Try On tool generates an image of the user wearing a selected garment by combining a selfie with a product photo or screenshot. Saved favourites are stored in ChatGPT’s Library, where users can organise them into folders and revisit the try‑on images before buying through the retailer’s website. OpenAI cautions that the generated pictures may not reproduce the person or product exactly and do not guarantee size or fit, though reference photos can be edited or deleted in settings.
“Found something I like. Think I should I buy it?” Daniel Danker, EVP AI Acceleration, Product, and Design, Walmart said.
Walmart’s work with OpenAI follows an October 2025 deal that let shoppers buy items via Instant Checkout inside the chatbot. Earlier, in September 2022, Walmart launched Be Your Own Model using its Zeekit acquisition to show clothing on shoppers’ own photos, a service that covered more than 270,000 items at launch.
