Zara and Gap use luxury tactics to boost media impact and sales
Zara and Gap are adopting luxury‑brand strategies such as designer partnerships to increase their media impact value, with Zara’s March 17 Galliano announcement delivering $8.3 million in MIV within 48 hours. Launchmetrics found that mass‑market brands employing premium tactics averaged twice the MIV of those that did not from January 2025 to June 2026.

GapStudio’s first full women’s collection, launched in April 2025, saw a $158 version of Anne Hathaway’s custom shirtdress sell out within hours.
In the first half of 2026, 78 % of GapStudio’s MIV carried the theme ‘accessible elevation,’ while Zara’s Galliano announcement showed 62 % archival authority and 54 % premium elevation in its coverage.
“Longevity most often comes from what happens next [from the brand],” Alison Bringé, Launchmetrics’ chief marketing officer said.
“It brings brand awareness to a new generation,” Zac Posen, designer said.
Mass market brands have borrowed from luxury for decades, so the tactics themselves aren’t new, The wider Gap business is growing, too, in part through this designer association.
