ASOS confirms cyber breach exposing names and contacts, shares drop 11%
On 6 October 2026, ASOS said a hacking incident accessed basic personal information such as names and contact details, and its shares fell 11% in morning trading. The retailer said an unauthorised party gained access to an employee account, prompting an immediate lockdown and investigation.
ASOS locked down the affected platforms and launched a full investigation with internal and external cyber experts.
“What makes the ASOS incident so damaging is that it came through the push notifications customers had chosen to receive,” Marty Bauer, ecommerce expert at Omnisend said.
“This is the cyber equivalent of hijacking a shop’s Tannoy and announcing a breach to every customer in the store,” Jonathan Lee, director of cyber strategy at TrendAI said.
