Primark signs long-term deal with Circ to introduce recycled polyester from 2029

Primark agreed a long-term purchase deal with Circ to use recycled polyester made from textile waste in its clothing starting in 2029. The deal marks Primark’s first multi-year offtake agreement with a textile-to-textile recycler.

Recycled polyester will be produced at Circ’s commercial facility, which is the company’s first industrial-scale textile-to-textile recycling plant. The plant will source post-consumer and post-industrial textile waste globally, including waste collected in Europe. The agreement supports Primark’s goal to increase circular materials and reduce reliance on virgin polyester, and it forms part of the retailer’s Primark Cares strategy covering circular design, garment reuse and repair, and increased recycled fibre use.

“We launched Primark Cares with a focus on improving the quality and longevity of our clothing, and in the process show that clothes made to last longer don’t have to come at a higher price,” Lynne Walker, Primark Cares director said.

“This partnership is an important milestone in accelerating our ambitions to further embed circularity in our business and help scale innovative textile-to-textile recycling solutions that could play a transformational role in the future of fashion,” Lynne Walker, Primark Cares director said.

Primark has been working to increase the use of recycled fibres through its Primark Cares initiative, which also emphasizes circular design and extending garment life via reuse and repair. Prior to this deal, the retailer had not entered into a multi-year offtake agreement with a textile-to-textile recycler.
