Rust Coast Deploys Real-Time Computer Vision to Cut Apparel Fit Errors

Rust Coast founder Kyle Valade has introduced a turnkey computer vision system that uses factory‑floor cameras to automatically measure garments and compare them to specifications in real time. The system sends images to an app where analytics are generated and alerts are pushed to the brand’s portal, aiming to capture a picture of each item throughout production.

Cameras are installed across factories and take pictures passively without interfering with workers. Visual AI processes the images to automatically measure the clothing made by suppliers. The system compares those measurements with the product’s specification in real time. Photos and data are sent to Rust Coast’s app for more intensive processing that generates analytics and alerts. Those alerts are then pushed to the brand’s portal for review. The company is working toward capturing a picture of each piece of clothing throughout the entire manufacturing process. Valade says the technology will save companies millions by ensuring correctly sized products are always shipped. Before founding Rust Coast, Valade worked at Rivian for several years, helping to pull in and organize petabytes of vehicle data. He initially launched Rust Coast to digitize manual, pencil‑and‑paper processes in factories, starting with garment measurements. Many factory processes remain pencil‑and‑paper even when machines are advanced and digital. He began by examining the beanies production line, noting that each step—yarn knitting, fabric cutting, folding, sewing, labeling, and final measurement—must be correct or the whole item is ruined.

“that will save companies millions by ensuring correctly sized products are always shipped,” Kyle Valade, founder of Rust Coast Manufacturing Technology said.
