Shipt names Raj Kapoor as CEO effective Oct. 18

Shipt appointed Raj Kapoor as its next chief executive officer, with the change taking effect on October 18. Kapoor previously served as Shipt’s chief operating officer from 2022 to 2025 before moving to Target, and he succeeds Kamau Witherspoon, who had led the company for over four years.

During his three-year run as COO, Kapoor scaled Shipt’s fulfillment engine, improved quality and service, and led day-to-day operations. At Target, he drove profitable growth, expanded assortment and improved the customer experience on Target Plus. Shipt remains a wholly owned Target subsidiary, acquired in 2017. The leadership shift coincides with Shipt’s recent AI push, including the September launch of Ask Shipt, an AI-powered shopping assistant that can build carts from conversation or photos and suggest budget‑friendly meals.

“I’m excited to rejoin Shipt, work with Target and our partners, and lead a team whose care and dedication I know firsthand. My focus is simple: enhance convenience for our customers, empower our shopper and driver community, and strengthen business performance across our offerings,” Raj Kapoor, incoming CEO said.

Kamau Witherspoon had led Shipt for four-plus years and will remain through late October to support the transition. Witherspoon spent more than 15 years at Target, and during his tenure he integrated the Shipt marketplace as a benefit for Target Circle 360 members. Shipt was acquired by Target in 2017.
